Eli McKamey of the Penticton Vees chooses University of North Dakota


Penticton Vees’ Eli McKamey, the first player in BCHL history to receive exceptional status, has verbally committed to the University of North Dakota. At just 15 years old, McKamey has already made a name for himself as a top prospect for the 2027 NHL draft. The 5’10” forward has six points in 12 games this season and is expected to join the University of North Dakota’s premier NCAA Division l program in 2026-2027.

McKamey signed with the Vees after playing in the Canadian Hockey School Sports League on Vancouver Island, showcasing his talent and potential to secure an NCAA commitment. He is the 20th player on the Penticton roster to earn a Division l commitment, highlighting the team’s dedication to developing top-tier athletes.

Fans can catch McKamey and the Vees in action this weekend as they face off against the Blackfalds Bulldogs and Brooks Bandits at home on Nov. 1 and 2. With his recent commitment to the University of North Dakota, McKamey is set to continue his hockey career at the collegiate level and further solidify his path to potential NHL success.
