Hensoldt, a German defense contractor, has secured a contract to upgrade the sensor technology on 90 Fennek reconnaissance vehicles for the Bundeswehr, Germany’s armed forces. The contract includes 30 scout vehicles and 50 Joint Fire Support Team (JFST) vehicles. The modernization project will involve replacing the BAA I and BAA II sensor systems with the BAA III package, which includes a laser target designator, a dual-band HDTV camera, and improved ergonomics for ease of operation. Hensoldt will also provide ten additional BAA III systems as reserve and spare parts, with two units going to KNDS Deutschland for integration and verification management.
The integration of the new sensor technology will be carried out in partnership with the Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and is expected to begin deliveries in early 2026. The upgrade is aimed at enhancing the reconnaissance and targeting capabilities of the Fennek vehicles, allowing for more precise and effective operations in the field. Hensoldt’s expertise in sensor technology and defense systems has positioned them as a leading provider of solutions for military applications. The contract win further solidifies their reputation as a trusted partner for the Bundeswehr and demonstrates their commitment to providing state-of-the-art technology to support the country’s national defense capabilities.
