NDSU Clinches Victory Over UND in Intense Volleyball Showdown

FARGO, N.D. – In a thrilling conclusion to the regular season, the North Dakota Fighting Hawks faced off against their rivals, the North Dakota State Bison, on Tuesday night at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The match was a back-and-forth battle, stretching over four hard-fought sets but ultimately saw NDSU secure a 3-1 victory.

The opening set showcased a promising start for the Hawks, who jumped to an early lead of 11-5. However, the Bison rallied back, finishing the set with an impressive 18-9 run, taking it 28-26 despite several set-point opportunities for North Dakota. The Hawks fought valiantly in the second set, where consecutive kills from Paige Barber and Jarolin de los Santos Lugo helped them level the match at one set apiece.

NDSU gained control in the third set, establishing an early 8-3 advantage. Despite North Dakota’s attempts to close the gap, including a late surge from Barber and Elizabeth Norris, the Bison prevailed 25-21. The fourth set saw the Hawks take a strong lead of 13-6, but NDSU fought back, eventually equalizing and pushing past UND with a final score of 27-25, sealing their victory in the match.

The Fighting Hawks concluded their season with a record of 9-18 overall and 2-14 in Summit League play. Key performances included Barber’s 16 kills and Santos Lugo’s career-high 14 kills in her final collegiate match. Additionally, Norris notched a double-double with 15 kills and 19 assists, highlighting her impressive collegiate career.
