Devils Lake Joins West Region as North Dakota Football Class Makes Adjustments

The NDHSAA announced adjustments to high school football classes for the 2025 season in North Dakota. Devils Lake will remain in Class AA but will move from the East Region to the West Region. Central Cass and Kindred will move from Class A to AA, while West Fargo Horace moved up to AAA and Valley City went down to Class A.

Central Cass and Kindred will join the East Region, replacing Horace and Devils Lake. Devils Lake will now compete in a conference with Jamestown and Minot North, among others. Horace, after winning the AA championship, moves up to AAA. Valley City will now compete in the more geographically convenient Class A’s Region 1.

Devils Lake has a winning record against teams like Watford City and Jamestown, but struggles against Bismarck St. Mary’s and Dickinson. The changes in classes are based on enrollment numbers and are designed to create more competitive matchups for high school football teams in North Dakota.

The adjustments come after the conclusion of the 2024 high school football season, where Central Cass, Kindred, and Horace had successful runs in their respective classes. Valley City had a decent season but lost in the first round of the playoffs.

The NDHSAA released a full list of the changes, which can be found on their website. The upcoming season is anticipated to bring new rivalries and challenges for teams in different classes and regions.
