The St. Thomas softball team dominated North Dakota in a doubleheader, winning both games with scores of 6-2 and 8-3. St. Thomas used strong first innings in both games to gain an early advantage over UND. The Tommies’ victories pushed their Summit League record to 8-3, while UND fell to 7-7 in league play.
In the first game, St. Thomas capitalized on a three-run first inning to set the tone, while UND responded with single tallies in the next two frames. The Hawks were unable to catch up, as St. Thomas added runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In game two, the Tommies once again had a strong first inning with three runs, while UND managed to score only three runs throughout the game.
Key players for UND included Katelyn Strauss, who posted a career-best 5.0 innings in relief in game one, and Katie Joten, who recorded her 12th multi-hit game of the season. The Hawks struggled to generate offense with only two extra-base hits in both games.
The series finale between the Hawks and the Tommies is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. Live coverage links for the series can be found on the Fighting Hawks website. For more information on North Dakota softball, visit FightingHawks.com or follow @UNDsoftball on social media.
