Hawks fall short in comeback attempt against St. Thomas


GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota softball suffered a 4-2 loss to St. Thomas as the Tommies secured a sweep over the Fighting Hawks with a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning. Despite a strong effort, UND now sits at 24-22 overall and 7-8 in league play, while UST improved to 26-16 and 9-3 in Summit League action. The Hawks fell behind early as UST scored two runs in the first inning. North Dakota managed to tie the game in the fourth inning, but UST pulled ahead with the home run in the seventh. Freshman pitcher Unity Nelson had a solid outing, scattering five hits and working around eight walks. Katie Joten recorded a hit streak and reached base safely streak of five games. Nelson went the distance for the second time this season and turned a career-high 7.0 innings. Joten delivered her team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season, while Angie Dumlao recorded her seventh. Alexander had a two-RBI day, marking the second multi-RBI game of her freshman season.
