Two or more fatalities reported as severe storms sweep through South to Northeast


A 12-year-old boy and a woman were tragically killed in Oklahoma after their vehicle was swept under a bridge during severe weather that brought hail and strong winds to the region. Police in Moore, Oklahoma conducted a water rescue, but were only able to save two occupants. Almost 30 severe weather reports came in, including two unconfirmed tornadoes in Texas. On Easter Sunday, the storm system moved east, threatening 11 million people with severe weather in Arkansas, St. Louis, and Illinois. The National Weather Service warned of damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes, with the greatest risk of tornadoes in northern Arkansas and strong winds and hail near St. Louis. Flood alerts were issued for over 11 million people from Texas to Illinois, with significant power outages reported in multiple states. The threat of flooding continued with rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches, and up to 7 inches in some areas. Over 100,000 utility customers remained without power in the South and Northeast. The National Weather Service urged residents to take precautions as the storm system intensified and moved east, increasing the risk of severe weather events including tornadoes and damaging winds.
