The Western N.D. Honor Flight is set to take off from the Magic City for the first time, with a record number of 118 veterans traveling to Washington, D.C. U.S. Navy veteran Bernie Wirtz, who served for four years, is among the group and is excited to visit the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall. Wirtz was assigned to two ships during his time in the Navy and was responsible for working on radars to spot enemies from a distance. Now, at 80 years old, he is looking forward to paying tribute to his fallen comrades. The public is invited to attend the send-off event at the Minot International Airport on Sunday morning and to welcome the veterans back home on Monday evening. Reporter Kyona Rivera will be traveling with the veterans to provide coverage of their journey. The group will be visiting a dozen historic sites during their trip.
