North Dakota State Falls to SDSU in Series Opener
BROOKINGS, S.D. – In a challenging matchup on Friday, the North Dakota State baseball team suffered a 6-3 defeat against South Dakota State at Erv Huether Field. The Jackrabbits (10-27, 6-11 Summit) seized an early lead with a two-run RBI double from Bryce Ronken in the first inning.
Despite a strong performance from NDSU’s Nolan Johnson, who recorded nine strikeouts over six innings, the Bison (13-24, 10-8 Summit) struggled to maintain momentum. Davis Hamilton ignited the Bison’s offense with a two-run home run in the sixth, leveling the score at 2-2.
SDSU responded in the seventh, regaining the lead with a two-run single from Jess Bellows, extending their advantage to 4-2. Hamilton reduced the deficit to one by capitalizing on an error in the eighth, but the Jackrabbits sealed the game with additional runs, ending the contest at 6-3.
Hamilton stood out with two hits, including a home run and a double, contributing two runs, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. NDSU will look to bounce back in a doubleheader against SDSU tomorrow, starting at 11 a.m., featuring a rescheduled game from March 29.
