NDSU Baseball Falls to SDSU in Series Finale
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The North Dakota State baseball team faced a tough defeat against South Dakota State, losing 9-6 in the final game of their series at Erv Huether Field on Sunday. The Jackrabbits (12-28, 8-12 Summit) established an early lead, going up 7-3 over the first six innings.
Despite the deficit, NDSU (14-26, 11-10 Summit) fought back in the seventh inning when Sam Canton launched a solo home run, narrowing the score to 7-4. In the eighth, Jake Schaffner added a two-run homer, bringing the Bison within one run at 7-6. However, South Dakota State quickly responded with two RBI singles, extending their lead to 9-6.
NDSU’s offensive effort featured a total of 11 hits, with four players hitting at least two. Schaffner contributed significantly, going 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while Dante Smith recorded three hits and one run. On the mound, Leland Wilson took the loss, and Reese Ligtenberg impressed with 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, notching three strikeouts.
The Bison will look to bounce back in their upcoming game against Minnesota on Tuesday, April 29, at 6:00 p.m.
