Charting the Future: Al Heiser’s New Chapter in Public Service – The Dickinson Press

Former Stark County Road Superintendent Al Heiser Elected to Dunn County Commission

MANNING, N.D. — After two decades of serving as Stark County’s road superintendent, Al Heiser announced his retirement to focus on family. However, the lifelong Dunn County resident couldn’t completely step away from public service. In spring 2024, Heiser launched his campaign for a seat on the Dunn County Commission.

Although his initial campaign faced challenges, with the lowest vote total in the June primary, Heiser remained determined. He engaged more with voters, particularly in underperforming areas, ultimately turning the tide. His efforts paid off in the November general election, where he was elected, unseating an incumbent, and was sworn in on December 4, 2024.

Heiser’s significant achievements during his 21 years in Stark County included overseeing vital road improvements, notably the Highway 22 bypass around Dickinson—a project that secured $7.5 million in state funding. He played a crucial role in ensuring public safety by installing water tanks for firefighting access.

Now on the Dunn County Commission, Heiser aims to revamp the road department and support small communities’ growth. He emphasizes that public service is not just a job for him, but a lifelong commitment to improving communities.
