In Memory of Joseph Mischel: A Life of Love and Service
Joseph Mischel, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on March 18, 1934, in Dickinson, North Dakota, he was the son of Tom and Anna (Froelich) Mischel. After serving two years in the U.S. Army, Joe settled in Seattle during the 1950s, where he began a distinguished career at Boeing in 1960, contributing to key defense projects like the Minute Man ICBM and AWACS programs until his retirement in 1996.
Joe married Frances on July 1, 1960, and the couple raised their family in Bellevue, Washington. He was a devoted father to David, James, and Stephen, proudly supporting their achievements throughout their lives. Joe cherished family camping trips to Mora Campground in Olympic National Park and was known for his unwavering generosity and practical skills. His faith played a fundamental role in his life; he was a longtime member of St. Louise Catholic Church and later attended Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Edmonds.
He is survived by his wife Frances, sons David (Ruth), James (Debbie), and Stephen (Lenox), along with grandchildren Alex, Dylan, Jacqueline, Jessica, and Juliette, and great-grandchildren Coleman, Fayrah, Johanna, and Lincoln. Joe’s brother, Peter of Spearfish, South Dakota, also mourns his loss. He was predeceased by his sister Vicky and brother Fred.
The family expresses gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Ruth during Joe’s final years near Salem, Oregon. A memorial service will be held at St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue on May 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of choice. Joe will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and enduring devotion to family.
