Paddlefish Season Kicks Off in North Dakota and Montana
As paddlefish season approaches, anglers in North Dakota will have a chance to participate from May 1 to May 21, with potential for early closure announced with 24 hours’ notice by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department. Anglers must secure a paddlefish tag—available at designated Game and Fish offices or online—and are reminded that there are no refunds for unused or lost tags. Harvest days are set for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, while Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays will be dedicated to snag-and-release fishing.
In Montana, the paddlefish season begins shortly after, from May 15 to June 15, accommodating fishing from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The state will limit the annual harvest to 1,000 paddlefish. Anglers are required to report their catches and can purchase tags through regional offices, as online sales are not offered.
Both states are also providing free fish cleaning services, promoting a more sustainable fishing experience. For the latest updates and regulations, anglers can visit their respective Game and Fish websites or contact local offices.
