USD Volleyball Coach Leanne Williamson Receives Contract Extension
VERMILLION, S.D. — The University of South Dakota proudly announced a three-year contract extension for head volleyball coach Leanne Williamson, ensuring her leadership through the fall of 2030. Williamson, the program’s all-time wins leader, enters her 12th season with an impressive record of 231-101.
Under her guidance, the Coyotes achieved significant milestones, including their fifth Summit League Tournament Championship and fifth appearance in the NCAA Division I National Tournament in 2024. Williamson expressed her excitement, stating, "I am ecstatic to continue to lead South Dakota volleyball into the future," and thanked the university leadership for their support.
Williamson’s tenure has been marked by remarkable success; she is a three-time Summit League Coach of the Year, and her teams have secured either the regular season or postseason title in the past seven seasons. Notably, the Coyotes achieved a perfect 16-0 conference record in 2019. Throughout her time at USD, the program has produced four Summit League Players of the Year and multiple other award winners.
"I am looking forward to continuing to win championships while succeeding in the classroom and giving back to the community!" Williamson added, reflecting on her commitment to both athletic and academic excellence.
The Coyotes have consistently won 15 or more games for 11 consecutive seasons, with a record home attendance of 2,810 set during a match against South Dakota State. Athletic Director Jon Schemmel praised Williamson’s impact, stating, “What she has built over the last decade is incredible. Keeping Leanne as a Coyote will always be a top priority for me!”
Williamson, a Hartland, Wisconsin native, was recently inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Hall of Fame, highlighting her outstanding athletic background. As the USD volleyball program continues to thrive, the future looks bright under her leadership.
