Madison Author Publishes Book on Wisconsin Icons
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Local author Dean Robbins has debuted his latest work, "Wisconsin Idols," a compelling collection of essays spotlighting one hundred influential figures who have shaped Wisconsin and beyond. During his recent visit to WMTV, Robbins shared insights into the book, which features approximately 100 essays focused on a dozen notable individuals, both historical and contemporary, with ties to the state.
Robbins’ passion for storytelling is evident. He recalls being inspired from a young age, humorously noting how he would draw Superman symbols on his shirts to evoke a sense of heroism in himself and others. “I want my people to be your heroes,” he remarked, emphasizing that storytelling is a powerful tool in connecting people with these significant figures.
Among the diverse stories in the book, Robbins highlighted a personal favorite: an anecdote about Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, intervening in a fight at a Madison gas station shortly before his death. He recounted how Presley, en route to a concert, witnessed the altercation from his limousine and stepped in to diffuse the situation. “He saved the day and it was the last miracle of his life,” Robbins reflected.
"Wisconsin Idols" promises to engage readers through these captivating narratives, inviting them to explore the lives of various icons who have left a lasting impact. For those interested in learning more about these heroic figures, Robbins’ book is now available for purchase.
