South Dakota State’s Nolan Grawe Named Summit League Player of the Week
South Dakota State University’s baseball team continues to shine as freshman third baseman Nolan Grawe was recently awarded the Kwik Star Peak Performer of the Week following an outstanding performance across multiple games. Grawe, hailing from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, showcased his prowess with a remarkable .480 batting average, recording 12 hits—including his second home run—and driving in six runs during the week. He notably excelled in a home victory against Northwestern, scoring four times and hitting 3-for-3.
This recognition comes as SDSU has demonstrated significant talent on the field, with the Jackrabbits previously earning the Peak Pitcher award through reliever Dylan Driessen and freshman Caleb Duerr in prior weeks. With an impressive strikeout record and consistent pitching, the team is positioned for success in the upcoming Summit League Baseball Championship.
Despite being picked to finish fifth in a preseason poll, SDSU has had a successful run, partially thanks to standout players like Grawe and those in their bullpen. The Jackrabbits’ recent renovations to Erv Huether Field—now featuring a synthetic turf surface—have further bolstered the program’s recruitment and training capabilities, as expressed by head coach Rob Bishop.
The depth of talent on the roster is evident, with multiple freshmen making substantial contributions. Players like Keagen Jirschele and Nicholas Werk have also emerged as key lineup fixtures. The Jackrabbits will conclude their road series with a vital three-game set in Omaha from May 9-11 as they seek to secure positioning for the upcoming postseason tournament set for May 21-24. The rigorous competition within the Summit League ensures an exhilarating finish to the season.
