Golden Gophers Fall to Bison in Home Matchup
MINNEAPOLIS – Despite a strong performance from senior Parker Knoll, the Minnesota Golden Gophers fell to the North Dakota State Bison 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon, bringing their season record to 20-22.
Knoll stood out at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory. Freshman Luke Ryerse (0-2) started on the mound for Minnesota, suffering the loss, while sophomore Will Whelan shone in relief. Whelan delivered 2.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing just one hit, walking one batter, and striking out four.
The game began with the Gophers quickly trailing 1-0 before they surged ahead in the first inning. Knoll’s clutch RBI single brought junior Drew Berkland home from third. However, North Dakota State responded with a four-run barrage, reclaiming the lead and extending it to 5-1.
The Gophers rallied again in the third, with senior Josh Fitzgerald scoring one run, but the Bison increased their advantage to 6-2. In the eighth inning, Minnesota attempted to close the gap with another RBI from junior Weber Neels, bringing the score to 6-3. Unfortunately for the Gophers, the Bison defense held strong, and no further runs were scored.
Additional game highlights included Berkland stealing two bases and the Gophers drawing four walks from North Dakota pitching.
