Five Additional Measles Cases Confirmed in Williams County, Prompting Health Alerts

WILLIAMS COUNTY, N.D. – The North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services has reported five new measles cases in Williams County, raising the total in the state to nine. These latest cases involve unvaccinated individuals with no known contact with previously diagnosed patients, raising concerns about possible community transmission.

Health officials revealed that four of the infected individuals were in Williston schools while contagious. In accordance with North Dakota law, unvaccinated students are required to remain excluded from school for 21 days. Furthermore, staff unable to provide vaccination documentation and born after 1957 must also stay home during this period. The affected schools include Missouri Ridge Elementary, Williston Middle School, and Williston High School.

Additionally, anyone who visited Williston Walmart between 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 29 should watch for symptoms and seek medical advice if needed. Local health officials are urging all residents and visitors to ensure their measles vaccinations are up to date. Vaccination clinics are being held at 110 W. Broadway, Williston, this Thursday and Friday. For more information on measles and vaccinations, residents can contact the HHS Immunization Unit at 701-328-2378.
