In Loving Memory: Shirley Eggert Heyd Suhr Passes Away at 83
BISMARCK, ND — Shirley Eggert Heyd Suhr, a beloved mother and community member, peacefully passed away on May 7, 2025, at St. Gabriel’s Benedictine Living Community after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 19, 1941, in Hebron, North Dakota, Shirley was the eldest daughter of Werner and Ora (Braun) Eggert. Raised on the family farmstead, she graduated from Hebron High School in 1959. Shortly after, on October 16 of the same year, she married Walter Heyd, with whom she had two children, Cheri and Terry. Following their divorce, she married Henry Suhr on May 9, 1971, and together they welcomed a son, Lloyd.
Shirley’s career spanned various roles, primarily in the hospitality industry, showcasing her dedication and warmth. In her retirement, she found joy in reading, crocheting, and delving into family history, as well as socializing with loved ones online.
She is survived by her brother, Wayne (Nancy) Eggert, and her three children: Cheri Heyd (Jerry) Krueger of Jefferson, Oregon, Terry Heyd of Bismarck, and Lloyd (Debra) Suhr, also of Bismarck. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Chrissy Brausch, Steven Brausch, Jordan Heyd, Seth Heyd, and Mikaela Suhr—as well as her step-granddaughter Brittney Kruger and seven great-grandchildren.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Suhr, her parents, and her sister, Ruth Eggert. She will be laid to rest at Saint John’s Cemetery in Hebron, North Dakota, with a private memorial service to be held at a later date.
