Danny Martin Sad, Distinguished Veteran and Beloved Family Man, Passes Away
Charlestown, Indiana – The community mourns the loss of Danny Martin “Dan” Sad, aged 61, who passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025. Born on September 25, 1963, in North Dakota, Dan was the son of the late Halsey Earl and Pauline Gertrude Sad. A proud graduate of Jamestown High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Moorhead State University, where his dedication to service began.
Dan’s life was profoundly influenced by his partnership with his wife, Amy Sad, whom he met in Key West, Florida. His commitment to education continued as he attained a Master’s in National Defense and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. He served honorably as a fighter pilot in the Navy before transitioning to the Air Force, culminating in a distinguished career that spanned several decades until his retirement in November 2013.
Beyond his military achievements, Dan was deeply devoted to his family. He cherished moments spent with his wife and children, Isabella, Connor, and Sophia, filling his retirement with love, music, coaching, and teaching. Friends and family remember Dan for his integrity, humility, and compassion.
Dan is survived by his wife and children, his brothers Harold Sad and Mark Sad, and numerous extended family members across several states. A celebration of his life will be held at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for refreshments at the Clark County 4-H Center.
Dan’s legacy of service and love will be dearly missed.
