Press Release: Randy Hedberg to be Inducted into North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame
JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Randy Hedberg, a revered football coach and longtime figure at North Dakota State University (NDSU), will be honored with induction into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 21, at the Jamestown Civic Center, starting at 5 p.m. The event will feature a social hour and silent auction, with tickets available for $35 in advance ($40 after June 14) at the Jamestown Civic Center or through a phone call at (701) 252-4835.
Founded in 1992, the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame biannual banquet celebrates athletes and coaches who have made substantial contributions to sports in North Dakota. Hedberg is among four inductees this year, alongside Sheri Kleinsasser Stockmoe, Greg Eslinger, and Tim Olson.
Originally from Parshall, N.D., Hedberg’s illustrious coaching career spans 45 years, concluding after the 2024 season. Notably, he spent his final 11 years at NDSU, where he coached four NFL quarterbacks and led the Bison to seven national championships and eight conference championships.
Hedberg follows in the footsteps of other Bison greats previously honored in the Hall, including Whitney Carlson (track and field, 2020), Phil Hansen (football, 2002), Amy Ruley (women’s basketball coach, 2000), and Ron Erhardt (football coach, 1996).
This year’s induction is a testament to Hedberg’s enduring legacy and impact on North Dakota’s sports community, solidifying his place among the state’s sports luminaries. Fans and community members are encouraged to attend this momentous occasion in honoring one of North Dakota’s coaching icons.
