Michelle Strinden Sworn in as North Dakota’s 40th Lieutenant Governor

FARGO, ND – Michelle Strinden was officially sworn in as North Dakota’s 40th lieutenant governor on December 15, 2024, marking the beginning of a promising leadership journey rooted in community service and advocacy. Strinden, a lifelong North Dakotan, has been recognized for her relentless commitment to enhancing education, healthcare, and economic development across the state.

Born in Grand Forks and raised in Bismarck, Strinden’s values of hard work and integrity were instilled in her from an early age, shaping her career as a dedicated public servant. She earned a degree in education from the University of North Dakota and later pursued a master’s in counseling, which led her to serve as a school counselor in various capacities, including impactful roles in alternative education settings.

After stepping away from public education to focus on family, Strinden immersed herself in community nonprofit work, where she honed her leadership skills through various board positions and initiatives. From 2018 to 2024, she represented south Fargo’s District 41 in the North Dakota House of Representatives. During her tenure, Strinden championed crucial legislation in literacy and behavioral health, passing several bipartisan bills that included significant funding boosts.

Her leadership extends beyond the legislature, having chaired the interim Juvenile Justice Committee and participated in the North Dakota Children’s Cabinet, among other roles. Strinden’s extensive experience encapsulates both public and private sectors, providing her with a comprehensive understanding of state challenges.

Michelle resides in Fargo with her husband, Tom Strinden, and their four children. Together, they are active community members and dedicated advocates for North Dakota. With her vision and passion for service, Lt. Governor Strinden aims to create a positive impact for all North Dakotans in her new role.
