A spokesperson for Taylor Swift stated that attempts to subpoena her as a witness in the legal case involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni are intended to exploit her name for publicity. Reports indicate Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, has issued a subpoena related to the 2024 film “It Ends With Us,” but Swift’s team insists she has no relevant information, as she was not involved in the film’s production or decisions and only licensed a song for it, akin to contributions from 19 other artists.
The legal conflict arose when Lively filed a civil rights complaint against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment during filming and retaliation for raising concerns about his on-set behavior. Lively claims Baldoni and others launched a coordinated scheme to silence her. Baldoni, in contrast, has dismissed the allegations as false and claims Lively is attempting to carry out a smear campaign. He has additionally sued The New York Times for libel over its coverage of Lively’s accusations, which the newspaper stands by.
In January, Baldoni filed another lawsuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, her representative Leslie Sloane, and Sloane’s PR firm, alleging defamation and seeking $400 million in damages. A trial is scheduled for March 2026 in New York. Swift’s involvement in the case surfaced through a text message referenced in Baldoni’s lawsuit, where “Taylor” is mentioned as a “megacelebrity friend,” leading to further media attention.
