Community Mourns the Passing of Bethol Knutson, 94
Dickinson, ND – May 10, 2025 – The community is mourning the loss of Bethol Jean Olson Knutson, who passed away at the age of 94 at St. Luke’s Home, surrounded by her loving family. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2025, at Living Word Fellowship Church at 10:30 a.m., conducted by Pastor Scott Skones, with burial following at Dunn Center Cemetery.
Born on February 6, 1931, in Dunn Center, ND, Bethol was raised in the Badlands, where she developed a passion for horseback riding and the outdoors, an enjoyment that marked her childhood. After graduating from high school in 1948, she pursued education and began teaching at Connelly School in 1949.
On November 12, 1950, Bethol married Kenneth Knutson and together they had five children: Brenda, Karen, Kim, Paul, and Lori. The couple farmed and ranched for over three decades, with Bethol actively involved in all aspects of farm life and well-known for her exceptional baking skills, particularly her donuts and twists.
Beyond her family, Bethol was dedicated to her community and church, serving in various organizations including the American Legion Auxiliary and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was a devoted Hospice volunteer for 33 years and cultivated friendships that enriched her life.
Bethol is survived by her children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth and several family members. The family requests that memorials be made to Heartland Hospice, Connect Medical Clinic, or Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch.
