Red Flag Warnings Proliferate in Minnesota and North Dakota Amid Fire Concerns
FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Almost every county in Minnesota and around half in North Dakota are currently under Red Flag Warnings, attributed to dangerously dry, hot, and windy conditions fueling fire risks. On Sunday, Moorhead firefighters responded to two separate blazes, including one at the yard waste compost site. Moorhead Fire Marshal Jamie Garvey warned, "High winds and dry conditions create perfect ignition opportunities."
Similarly, Fargo saw four fire incidents, including one at an apartment complex. Fargo Fire Marshal Ryan Erickson underscored the importance of properly disposing of cigarette butts, stating, "Taking the time to stub out our cigarettes can prevent fires."
In a more severe situation, a massive 750-acre fire near Brimson remains uncontained. St. Louis County Sheriff Gordon Ramsey urged the public to stay clear of affected areas: "We want to allow firefighters to do their job." North Dakota’s Department of Emergency Services reported 60 fire responses statewide over the weekend. Both Garvey and Erickson strongly advise against any open burning and encourage responsible handling of fire-related materials during this perilous period.
