Coyotes Defeated by NDSU 72-53 on Wednesday Night

Coyotes Fall to Bison in Summit League Showdown
VERMILLION, S.D. — January 25, 2025

In a tightly contested game at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, the South Dakota women’s basketball team was unable to secure a comeback against North Dakota State, falling 72-53. The Bison wasted no time establishing control, jumping to a 10-point lead in the first quarter, thanks in large part to Abbie Draper’s impressive 11 points.

Despite trailing early, the Coyotes fought back in the middle quarters. Grace Larkins sparked a rally with three consecutive scores, finishing the night with 23 points, keeping South Dakota within striking distance at halftime. The Coyotes clawed their way to a six-point deficit by the third quarter, aided by strong performances from Larkins and Carley Duffney, who added 13 points.

The final quarter, however, shifted the momentum decisively in favor of the Bison. North Dakota State capitalized on the Coyotes’ struggling offense, outscoring them 21-10. After hitting nearly half their shots in the third quarter, South Dakota faltered, converting just one of nine attempts in the fourth.

Noteworthy performances included Larkins’ 23 points, her 13th game scoring over 20, and Duffney’s consistent scoring. Cassidy Carson made her mark with three blocks, tying her career high.

Following the loss, the Coyotes now hold a season record of 9-11, with a home record of 7-4 and 3-3 in Summit League play. Looking to rebound, they will face South Dakota State this Saturday as part of the First Interstate Bank Interstate Series.
