Press Release: Rain Delays Construction Projects Across Fargo-Moorhead
Fargo, ND — Persistent rainfall has significantly hampered construction efforts across the Fargo-Moorhead area, delaying over a dozen road projects. Key sites affected include 45th Street South, 32nd Avenue South, and patchwork along Interstate 94, with on-site crews drastically reduced.
Jason Leonard, a division engineer for the City of Fargo, noted that the region’s clay soil complicates matters during wet conditions. “When it’s raining out, unfortunately, more times than not, we’re not able to work,” he explained. The moist clay creates ruts, halting mobility and making installation undesirable.
Work on I-94 has also experienced setbacks, with North Dakota Department of Transportation Assistant District Engineer Joe Peyerl indicating delays of two to two and a half days. He mentioned that decisions to work or cease operations rely largely on contractors assessing conditions.
Short-term projects, like the closure at Broadway and Second Avenue North, face tight schedules with little flexibility. Despite current slowdowns, officials urge drivers to remain vigilant in work zones, emphasizing safety even when crews are absent. Meanwhile, work on 45th Street is expected to conclude by mid-summer, with a new project on NP Avenue commencing in early June.
