South Dakota State’s Carter Sintek Named Semifinalist for Brooks Wallace Award
Overland Park, Kan. – South Dakota State University’s Carter Sintek has been recognized as one of 30 semifinalists for the prestigious Brooks Wallace Award, honoring the top shortstop in college baseball. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
Sintek, a talented sophomore hailing from Bennington, Nebraska, showcased outstanding performance throughout the regular season. He led the Jackrabbits with a remarkable .352 batting average, recording 74 hits and scoring 45 runs. His contributions also included three home runs, 29 runs batted in, and an impressive 118 defensive assists, which garnered him second-team all-Summit League recognition.
The Brooks Wallace Award is named in honor of former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played from 1977 to 1980 before tragically passing away from leukemia at the young age of 27. Semifinalists for the award are selected based on their offensive and defensive statistics from the season.
The finalists for the Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award will be announced on June 4, with the winner revealed later that month. Last year, the award went to Griff O’Ferrall from the University of Virginia.
Sintek’s achievement highlights not only his individual talent but also the strength of the South Dakota State baseball program. As one of the few players representing the Summit League, he is making significant strides on a national stage.
