Ex-Dakota Prairie School Counselor to Remain Free Without Bail – Grand Forks Herald

Lakota Man Charged with Child Sex Crimes, Bond Set

Lakota, ND – Brendon Thomas Parsley, a former school counselor at Dakota Prairie, has been recharged with child sex crimes ten months after his original case was dismissed due to prosecutorial errors. At a hearing on May 23, Parsley, 49, appeared voluntarily at the Nelson County Memorial Courthouse and continues to be represented by attorney Mark Friese.

Parsley faces serious charges, including Class C felony sexual assault and luring minors by computer, stemming from allegations involving inappropriate contact with two minor students he counseled. During the hearing, prosecutor Joshua Frey urged for a $25,000 bond reconsideration over safety concerns, while Friese argued for a reduced $5,000 bond, highlighting Parsley’s compliance with court orders and lack of previous contact with minors.

Judge Kristi Venhuizen ultimately set an unsecured bond at $10,000, requiring payment only if conditions are violated. No further restrictions on contact with minors were imposed outside the alleged victims. Parsley’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 3.

This case has garnered community attention, especially due to the age of the allegations and the initial dismissal’s context.
