Jackrabbits Dominate Bison in 10-0 Victory
BROOKINGS, S.D. (April 18, 2025) – The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits showcased their athletic prowess with a commanding 10-0 run-rule victory over North Dakota State University (NDSU) on Friday afternoon at Jerald T. Moriarty Field.
The Jackrabbits took control early, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the second to establish a 5-0 lead. Starting pitcher Sylvia Shromoff was impressive, allowing no hits and only two Bison players to reach base through her first four innings.
NDSU finally connected in the fifth inning with a leadoff single. Despite loading the bases with two outs, SDSU brought in relief pitcher Tayler Baker, who promptly struck out the next batter to maintain the shutout.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Jackrabbits broke the game open. A walk from Brooke Dumont set the stage for Abby Gentry, who hit a two-run homer, extending the lead to 7-0. The inning continued with walks from Alli Boyle and Akayla Barnard. Madi Conklin then sealed the victory with a three-run home run, concluding the game at 10-0.
Shromoff earned the win, improving her record to 3-1 and lowering her ERA to a team-leading 3.32. Baker, with her single out, received a save—her second of the season. Multiple hits came from Jacks trio Dumont, Barnard, and Gentry, with Gentry and Conklin each driving in three RBIs.
The victory marked South Dakota State’s 16th consecutive win over NDSU in their historic matchups. The two teams meet again tomorrow for a doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
