Omaha Mavericks Stage Epic Comeback, Beat SDSU in Extra Innings

OMAHA, NE (Dakota News Now) – In a thrilling Summit League Baseball Championship elimination game, the Omaha Mavericks rallied from a 5-0 deficit to defeat South Dakota State (SDSU) 7-6 in the bottom of the 10th inning. Drew Borner delivered the decisive blow, hitting a two-run single that clinched the victory at Tal Anderson Field.

SDSU initially took control with a strong start, scoring two runs in the third inning followed by three more in the fourth, highlighted by multi-RBI performances from Nolan Grawe. However, the Mavericks mounted a comeback starting in the sixth inning, with Tyler Bishop’s three-run homer igniting their offensive resurgence.

In the 10th, after trailing 6-5, Omaha mounted a two-out rally. Paul Schuyler and Cardel Dick ignited the comeback with singles, followed by a bases-loaded walk that set the stage for Borner’s game-winner. With this victory, Omaha improved to 20-29 and will face the loser of the North Dakota State vs. Oral Roberts matchup. Meanwhile, SDSU’s season ends at 16-36, marking a rare early exit from the tournament. Both teams displayed resilience, but it was Omaha that emerged victorious in a game filled with drama.
