North Dakota Prepares for 2025 Deer Season with New License Allocation
As North Dakota nears the application deadline for the 2025 deer season, set for June 4, the Game and Fish Department reports a decrease in available licenses. The 2025 season will offer 42,300 licenses, a drop of 7,800 from last year. This adjustment comes as the state experiences a stable to declining deer population, recovering from the 2021 EHD outbreak and the harsh winter of 2022-23.
In 2024, 42,416 hunters participated, with a success rate of 55%, harvesting approximately 23,300 deer. Notably, antlered mule deer hunters enjoyed an impressive success rate of 80%.
Casey Anderson, the Wildlife Division Chief, explained that limited quality habitats have hindered population recovery efforts. He highlighted concerns over potential losses in Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land, predicting a significant reduction by 2026 if contracts expire.
Applicants should note that not applying this year will result in lost accrued points. The 2025 deer gun season will run from November 7 to November 23. Interested hunters can apply online via the Game and Fish Department’s website before the June 4 deadline.
