Golden Eagles Triumph in Dramatic Comeback Against Jackrabbits
SIOUX FALLS, SD — In a thrilling Summit League showdown, Oral Roberts University (ORU) staged a stunning comeback to defeat South Dakota State University (SDSU) 13-11 on Friday at Erv Huether Field. The victory propelled the Golden Eagles to a 33-20 overall record and solidified their position in the league with a 20-9 record.
The Jackrabbits looked poised for victory, initially leading 10-4 through four innings, fueled by a series of strong performances. Dagen Schramm ignited SDSU’s offense with a two-run homer in the second, followed by a dominant five-run third inning that included a grand slam from Adam Benes and solid contributions from Bryce Ronken.
However, the tides turned in the fifth inning as ORU capitalized on Jackrabbit errors to rally back, scoring three unearned runs. The Golden Eagles narrowed the gap further in the seventh, setting the stage for a dramatic ninth inning.
In a nail-biting climax, ORU’s Will Edmunson delivered a three-run home run, marking a defining moment in the game and sealing the comeback victory. Edmunson’s performance was pivotal, going 3-for-6 with a game-winning hit.
Jackrabbit pitcher Dylan Driessen faced adversity in the ninth and ultimately took the loss, despite a strong outing earlier in the game. Ronken and teammate Carter Sintek accounted for nine of SDSU’s 15 hits, with Ronken achieving a 4-for-5 day at the plate.
With ORU winning the series 5-0, the teams are set to meet again Saturday at 1 p.m. for their regular-season finale, promising another exciting chapter in this competitive rivalry.
