North Dakota Historical Society Seeks to Complete Military Collection Before New Museum Opening

New North Dakota Military Gallery Set to Showcase State’s Military Heritage

BISMARCK, ND — The State Historical Society of North Dakota is excited to announce plans for the new North Dakota Military Gallery, which will be located on the Capitol grounds in Bismarck. This museum aims to highlight the state’s rich military history through an extensive collection of artifacts, including soldiers’ uniforms, military equipment, and personal items.

Currently, the Society holds approximately 10,000 military items; however, only about 5% are on display at any given time. The new facility will provide an opportunity to exhibit a broader range of these significant historical pieces. Brig. Gen. Jackie Huber, deputy adjutant general for the North Dakota National Guard, emphasized the gallery’s unique focus on North Dakota’s contributions to the military and the personal stories of service members from the state, both abroad and at home.

This initiative not only aims to preserve the memories of those who served but also to educate future generations about North Dakota’s military legacy. The development of the Military Gallery is poised to enhance the region’s cultural landscape and honor the sacrifices made by service members throughout history.
