RedHawks Rally to Beat Explorers in Weekend Finale
SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks secured a 6-3 victory over the Sioux City Explorers on Sunday at MercyOne Field, thanks to a pivotal four-run fourth inning and impressive relief pitching. In front of 1,265 fans, the RedHawks clinched two out of three games in the weekend series.
The Explorers began strong, leading 3-1 through three innings. However, Fargo-Moorhead clawed back with back-to-back leadoff doubles from Peter Brookshaw and Marcus Chiu, leading to Chiu scoring on a wild pitch. An error allowed Thomas Green to score the go-ahead run, followed by Robert Perez Jr. who doubled, driving in Juan Fernandez to extend the lead to 5-3.
In the seventh, Dillon Thomas’ single and subsequent plays led to another run for the RedHawks. On the mound, three RedHawks relievers shut down the Explorers, allowing only two hits over 5.1 scoreless innings. Kyle Johnston earned the win, while Garrett Anderson struck out five in three innings. Alex DuBord secured the save, striking out two in the ninth. Perez Jr. led offensively with three hits and two RBIs. The RedHawks will next face Gary SouthShore on Monday.
