Troy Women’s Basketball Advances to WNIT Fab 4 with Overtime Victory
FARGO, N.D. – The Troy Trojans women’s basketball team secured their spot in the WNIT Fab 4 for the second consecutive year after a thrilling overtime victory against North Dakota State, outscoring the Bisons 16-7 in extra time on Monday at Scheels Center.
With this win, Troy (23-13) prepares to face Illinois State on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. Five Trojans contributed to the overtime success, converting 10 crucial free throws. Briana Peguero led the charge with a career-high 22 points, going 10-of-11 at the line. Shaulana Wagner added 18 points and a team-high four assists, while Zay Dyer, Brianna Jackson, and Fortuna Ngnawo all scored in double figures, helping Troy dominate the rebounding battle 56-37.
North Dakota State (21-12) initially showcased strong performance, with Avery Koenen achieving a double-double, scoring 23 points alongside 14 rebounds. However, the Bisons struggled in overtime, converting only 3-of-13 shots.
The match saw numerous lead changes, culminating in a tense final minute of regulation. Troy, holding a narrow lead, saw North Dakota State tie the game at 81-81 with a last-second three-pointer from Molly Lenz, forcing overtime.
In the decisive extra period, Troy took control with a 10-0 run, highlighted by key free throws from Peguero and Wagner, sealing the 91-84 victory.

As they head into the Fab 4, Troy looks to continue their momentum in pursuit of a national championship.
