Baylor defensive lineman Alex Foster sadly passed away at the age of 18 on Wednesday in Greenville, Mississippi. The school has not disclosed the cause of his death. Foster, who redshirted last season, had participated in spring practices with the team.
In a joint statement, Baylor’s head football coach Dave Aranda and athletic director Mack Rhoades expressed their heartbreak over the unexpected loss, emphasizing Foster’s significance within the football program and the broader community. They conveyed their commitment to supporting Foster’s family and teammates during this challenging time, stating that his memory would always remain a part of the program and their hearts.
Aranda further reflected on Foster’s impact, remarking that he made a “long-lasting impact on all of us,” and extending prayers to his family and friends who cherished him greatly.
Foster was a talented athlete, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 292 pounds. He had been recognized as one of Mississippi’s top-20 prospects by 247Sports and was ranked as the 69th defensive lineman nationally when he graduated from St. Joseph High School in Madison. His promising potential and bright future in football made his loss even more tragic for those who knew him, as the community comes together to mourn and remember a young life that was full of promise.
