U.S. DOT Grants Nearly $9.2 Million for North Dakota Flood Repairs
BEULAH, N.D. – The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has allocated two significant grants totaling $9,201,975 to the North Dakota Department of Transportation. Funded through the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief (ER) Program, these awards aim to assist in major repairs following severe weather events in the state.
The bulk of the funding, $8,946,150, will target extensive damage caused by severe flooding in Eastern North Dakota on April 12, 2022. This flooding led to significant damage to culverts and erosion affecting both state and county roadways.
Additionally, a separate grant of $255,825 will address impacts from an overland and riverine flooding incident that occurred on April 10, 2023. This event resulted in a landslide, further culvert damage, and increased roadway erosion.
The ER Program is designed to supplement state and local resources, ensuring that communities can recover effectively from extraordinary conditions and maintain vital transportation infrastructure. The grants signify a commitment to restoring North Dakota’s roadways and promoting public safety in the wake of unexpected natural disasters.
