South Dakota Volleyball Welcomes Transfer Sam Untiedt to 2025 Roster
Vermillion, S.D. — South Dakota’s volleyball head coach, Leanne Williamson, has officially announced the addition of Louisville transfer Sam Untiedt to the Coyotes’ 2025 roster. Williamson expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "Sam is a relentless defender who will seamlessly fit into our defensive culture. Her dedication to training and learning is exceptional, positioning her as a significant asset to our already robust defense."
Untiedt, a libero/defensive specialist, showcased her talent during her freshman year at Louisville, appearing in 10 matches and playing 14 sets for the NCAA National Championship Runner-Up. Notably, she recorded one assist, three service aces, and eight digs, with a standout performance that included a career-high two aces against Northern Kentucky.
A standout at Heron Lake-Okabena High School, Untiedt earned numerous accolades, including four-time All-Red Rock Conference First Team selections and three-time All-Area honors. She boasts impressive career stats: 572 kills, 1,197 digs, 1,285 assists, 82 blocks, and 222 aces. Her accolades include recognition on the All-Breakdown Team for 2022 and 2023 and being named the Featured Player of 2022 in the Minnesota High School Volleyball Guidebook.
In club play, Untiedt thrived with Kairos 18 Alpha, earning AAU National All-American recognition and MVP honors in 2021. She was also named to the USA Volleyball All-Tournament Team in 2023 and was part of the 15U AAU National Championship winning team.
A native of Okabena, Minnesota, Untiedt plans to major in medical biology at South Dakota. The Coyotes look forward to her impact on the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
