North Dakota State Bison Ready to Take on No. 5 Razorbacks in NCAA Fayetteville Regional
Fayetteville, AR — North Dakota State University’s baseball team may have a 20-32 record, but head coach Tyler Oakes is optimistic as they prepare to face the No. 5 Arkansas Razorbacks (43-13) in the NCAA Fayetteville Regional on Friday at 2 p.m.
Despite their struggles, the Bison excelled against a challenging schedule, ranking first in nonconference strength of schedule. They had to tackle heavyweights like LSU and Alabama, finishing the season strong by going 3-1 at the Summit League Tournament, including two wins over Oral Roberts.
Oakes emphasized the importance of resilience, stating the Bison are "battle-tested" from their road-heavy schedule, which included spending the majority of February and March away from home. Their scrappy playstyle, led by standout players like sophomore shortstop Jake Schaffner (.384) and junior pitcher Nolan Johnson (4.14 ERA), has helped them find ways to compete against tougher teams.
While acknowledging Arkansas’s reputation as a powerhouse, Oakes remains undaunted. “We’ve got nothing to lose,” he said, indicating that the Bison are ready to showcase their talent against formidable opponents.
