Fargo’s Duane’s House of Pizza Set for Farewell
FARGO— Nostalgia fills the air as Duane’s House of Pizza prepares to close its doors at 1629 South University Drive on Thursday for the final time. This beloved eatery, a fixture in the community since 1975, will soon be demolished to make way for the $30 million BLOC apartments and commercial complex.
Patrons are invited to stop by for one last slice and bid farewell to the original location before it is torn down. Although the iconic pizzeria is relocating to a new building in close proximity, it promises loyal customers updates via their Facebook page throughout the transition.
Founded by Duane Schultz after he purchased the establishment from John Langhousen in 1969, Duane’s legacy expanded to both Fargo and Moorhead locations. While the Moorhead site closed in 2021, it was revived as Midtown Tavern in 2022.
The redevelopment of the South Plaza area was approved by the Fargo City Commission earlier this year. Slainte Hospitality has acquired franchising rights for Duane’s and aims to expand beyond the current locations. As the community prepares to say goodbye, the spirit of Duane’s will continue to flourish in its new home.
