Thompson’s Dramatic Win Sends Them to State Finals
Fargo, ND – In a nail-biting finish at the North Dakota Class B baseball state semifinals on Friday, Thompson High School triumphed over Northern Cass with a 4-3 victory at Newman Outdoor Field. The game concluded in a dramatic fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning when Will Welke was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing Eli Gemmill to score the game-winning run.
Thompson’s clutch performance earns them a spot in the championship game, where they will face the winner of the second semifinal pitting Park River against LaMoure-Litchville-Marion.
In the Class A semifinals held concurrently at Kraft Field in Grand Forks, West Fargo Sheyenne edged out Fargo South with a close 6-5 victory, propelled by senior Parker Henrich’s two RBIs and five strong innings on the mound. They are now set to play in the state championship game against Minot, who will face Fargo Davies in the other semifinal.
Both games highlighted the intensity of North Dakota high school baseball as teams vie for the ultimate prize. More updates will follow as the tournament progresses.
