Buddy Kofoid Dominates Don Mack Classic at River Cities Speedway
GRAND FORKS – In a thrilling showcase of sprint car racing, Buddy Kofoid clinched his first-ever victory at River Cities Speedway during the second annual Don Mack Classic, held Friday night. The 21-year-old driver, who is in only his second season with the World of Outlaws (WoO), took the lead from season points leader David Gravel on Lap 6 of the 40-lap race and maintained his momentum throughout.
Kofoid finished the race with a narrow 0.303-second lead over Gravel, who had shown strong early performance from pole position. “I just stayed on the top of the track,” Kofoid explained, noting his strategy to maintain speed. Donny Schatz, who started 15th, completed the podium in third place.
Kofoid now sits second in overall season points and will aim for consecutive wins at the upcoming Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo. Local driver Mark Dobmeier finished 15th after winning the Last Chance Showdown, and Jade Hastings drove from 22nd to 9th before crashing out.
The event was complemented by a late-model feature, with Dustin Strand emerging victorious, further showcasing the depth of talent present at the venue.
