VERMILLION, S.D. — Following a standout 2024 season, University of South Dakota’s head football coach, Bob Nielson, has announced his retirement after 32 years of coaching at the collegiate level, including nine years with the Coyotes.
Nielson, reflecting on his decision, expressed gratitude for his coaching journey, stating, “Coaching football has been a true blessing… I will deeply miss walking that sideline in the Dome.” Athletic Director David Schemmel praised Nielson’s impact, noting that he has transformed USD into a championship-worthy program capable of navigating the complexities of Division I athletics.
Nielson’s tenure saw the Coyotes reach new heights, notably clinching their first Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC) title in 2024.
