North Dakota State Defeats Kansas 4-3 in Fayetteville Regional
Fayetteville, Ark. – North Dakota State University (NDSU) edged out Kansas 4-3 in a thrilling matchup during the Fayetteville Regional on Saturday. Colten Becker led the charge with two hits and an RBI, showcasing his defensive skills with a remarkable catch in the seventh inning. Pitchers Logan Knight and Danny Lachenmayer held Kansas to just five hits, securing NDSU’s third appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.
The Bison set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first inning, with Becker contributing an RBI single. Kansas responded in the fourth when Jackson Hauge hit his 20th home run of the season, tying the game at 2-all. However, NDSU regained the lead with an RBI single from Blake Timmons and an important sacrifice fly from Evan Gustafson, taking a 4-2 advantage.
Knight, who pitched 6 1/3 innings, recorded two earned runs before handing the ball to Lachenmayer, who earned his ninth save of the season with three strikeouts. The loss marked the end of Kansas’s season, despite their impressive 43-win record, the second-best in program history.
NDSU will face the loser of the Arkansas-Creighton game on Sunday.
