Press Release: Red River Zoo Hosts Successful Safety Safari

Fargo, N.D. – The Red River Zoo welcomed families on Saturday for its annual Safety Safari, an initiative designed to promote safety awareness among children. Admission was free, allowing as many kids as possible to participate in this vital learning experience, which was sponsored by Sanford Health.

Throughout the day, law enforcement and EMS personnel engaged with children, demonstrating the importance of safety equipment like bike helmets and life jackets. The event featured interactive sessions that addressed various safety topics, including safe four-wheeling practices and fire safety, with a burn house demonstration led by local fire department officials.

Sally Mulvena, CEO and President of the zoo, emphasized the importance of educating children during the summer months when accidents are more likely to occur. “It’s a perfect opportunity to get them familiar with safety professionals,” she noted, highlighting hands-on activities like touring an ambulance to reduce the fear associated with emergency services.

Participants also had the opportunity to purchase bike helmets and life jackets, complete with free fittings to ensure proper sizing. The Safety Safari effectively combined fun with essential safety education, leaving families equipped with knowledge and resources to stay safe.
