Creighton Outlasts North Dakota State with Dramatic Walk-Off Win
Fayetteville, Ark. – In a thrilling contest on Sunday, the Creighton Bluejays edged out North Dakota State 11-10, thanks to a walk-off single from Kyle Hess who ended the game with his fourth RBI. This victory propelled Creighton into the championship round of the Fayetteville Regional, where they are set to face regional host Arkansas later that day.
Creighton took an early lead in the third inning, launching a five-run offensive that included a three-run home run from Hess, bringing their score to 8-3. This outburst followed a two-run single by Dakota Duffalo and was fueled further by solo home runs from Nolan Sailors and Teddy Deters in the fourth. However, the game took a turn as North Dakota State responded with a fierce rally, scoring five runs across the sixth and eighth innings.
Dante Smith and Davis Hamilton emerged as key players for North Dakota State, driving the team back into the game. A pivotal three-run home run from Hamilton in the sixth narrowed the gap, while Smith’s double and subsequent single in the eighth helped tie the game 10-10.
The ninth inning saw Creighton’s Garrett Langrell (7-1) dominate on the mound, striking out the side and setting the stage for Hess’s game-winning hit. Danny Lachenmayer (2-4) took the loss for North Dakota State, allowing the decisive single.
As Creighton prepares for a crucial showdown against Arkansas, they will need two victories to secure the regional championship, while Arkansas requires only one to advance to the super regionals next weekend.
