North Dakota Workforce Safety and Insurance Marks Second Annual Get Home Safe Day

North Dakota Celebrates Get Home Safe Day Amid Decreased Worker Injury Claims

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota’s Worker Safety and Insurance (WSI) marked its second annual Get Home Safe North Dakota Day, promoting workplace safety and reducing injuries among workers. Initiated last year, the program aims to provide monthly tools, resources, and partnerships to ensure safer working environments.

WSI Director Art Thompson revealed a significant drop in injury claims, with over 1,086 fewer claims filed even as the workforce expanded by more than 10,000 employees. Governor Kelly Armstrong highlighted the impact of these safety initiatives, noting that WSI processed over 17,000 injury claims in 2024. He reflected on the advances in the petroleum industry since the 1980s, observing a marked improvement in safety standards. “You used to go to an oil rig in 1983 and the number of fingers versus people wasn’t the same,” he remarked, emphasizing that safety is taken more seriously today.

The event underscored the importance of community growth in western North Dakota and the vital role of high-paying jobs in the region. For more information on worker safety, visit workforcesafety.com.
