Community Remembers Robert A. Anderson: A Life of Service and Passion
Jamestown, ND – Robert A. Anderson, a beloved member of the Jamestown community, passed away on May 30, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on February 3, 1935, Bob grew up on a family farm in Windsor Township, eventually graduating from Jamestown High School in 1953, where he excelled in sports as a linebacker for the Blue Jays.
Following a brief stint at the University of North Dakota, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army as a radar technician, serving in Fort Huachuca, Arizona. After his military service, he met his future wife, Sharon Trautman, at the Stutsman County Fair. The couple married on February 7, 1958, enjoying a loving partnership for 67 years.
Proud of his three children—Cheryl, a special needs educator; Greg, an engineer; and Kelly, a veterinarian—Bob actively supported their pursuits, often traveling to watch his grandchildren’s events. A familiar face in Jamestown, he worked at Seekins Booterie for 25 years, later opening Anderson Foot Wear in the local mall. In retirement, he cherished his role as a bus driver for James River Transit, assisting those in need.
An avid sports fan, Bob refereed high school basketball games and rarely missed a Bison football game. His passion for horses led him to mentor young equestrians and judge numerous horse shows as a long-standing leader in the James River 4-H Horse Club.
Bob’s warmth and kindness left an enduring impact on those around him; he never met a stranger. Survived by his wife, three children, and nine grandchildren, he will be deeply missed by family and friends. A memorial service will be held on June 7 at Cleveland United Methodist Church, followed by burial at Cleveland Cemetery and a reception at the community hall. Donations in his memory may be made to the Stutsman County 4-H Horse Organization.
