Press Release: Focus on Workplace Safety at Get Home Safe North Dakota Conference

BISMARCK – The second annual Get Home Safe North Dakota news conference highlighted the importance of workplace safety, reporting over 17,000 injury claims in fiscal year 2024, down by 1,086 from the previous year. North Dakota Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI) statistics underscored the positive impact of the campaign, initiated to foster a safety-centric culture across various industries.

Governor Kelly Armstrong and WSI Director Art Thompson urged employers and employees to prioritize safety, emphasizing that “getting home safe” is vital for protecting workers and their families. “When we discuss safety, we’re talking about safeguarding livelihoods and futures,” said Armstrong.

Patty Furuseth, a personal safety professional from Marathon Petroleum, reinforced the need to create an environment of psychological safety where workers feel empowered to share their ideas. She noted, “Safety becomes second nature when employees look out for one another.”

WSI offers various resources at gethomesafend.com, encouraging continuous improvement in safety practices across all workplaces. “It’s not just about policies; it’s about ensuring that our people return home safely,” Furuseth remarked. The conference emphasized that safety is a collective responsibility that starts with leadership and extends to every worker in North Dakota.
